Into the Wild

Over the weekend, we embarked on a mushroom gathering adventure in Wildpark Sihlwald, sparked by nothing but our curiosity

Our guide Martin Beeler from external page Pilzexkursionen.ch treated us to an educational and fun-filled foray into the diverse world of mushrooms that call the park home. Armed with baskets and already anticipating a fine mushroom dinner, we traversed the forest trails under Martin's expert guidance. We found and identified a large variety of mushrooms, learning about their symbiotic relationship with the environment, as much as their gustatory properties.

The excursion was initiated by 2nd year doctoral student Sophia Ganzeboom at the Chair of Structural Mechanics and Monitoring, whose research focuses on the integration of sensing/healing abilities in concrete structures by incorporating living organisms, such as mycelium.
