ETH Zurich at the Beijing Art & Technology Biennale 2024

Research from the Chair of Structural Mechanics and Monitoring at ETH Zurich was represented at the Beijing Art & Technology Biennale 2024, thanks to collaborations with Janiv Oron and Adrian Notz. Supported by Swissnex in China, the audiovisual installation The Stack explores megastructure theory, connecting engineering and artistic expression.

Beijing Art & Technology Biennale 2024

The Beijing Art & Technology Biennale (BATB), running from October 25, 2024, to February 23, 2025, embraces the theme Earthwise. This year’s focus highlights the intelligence of animals, plants, and machines within the context of planetary intelligence. Among the featured works, The Stack, curated by Adrian Notz and created by Janiv Oron, stands out as an engaging audiovisual installation inspired by megastructure theory. The project reflects ongoing research conducted at the Chair of Structural Mechanics and Monitoring at ETH Zurich, led by Prof. Eleni Chatzi.

The Biennale showcases a variety of global contributions, uniting artistic and scientific perspectives to address critical planetary issues. Alongside the exhibition, Swissnex in China will host an event in Shanghai to foster dialogue on creative approaches to sustainability and global challenges.
