Livia Fabbretti

Guest, Professorship for Structural Mechanics and Monitoring

Livia Fabbretti is a PhD student at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the external page University of Perugia, supervised by Prof. Marco Breccolotti and co-supervised by Prof. Filippo Ubertini since November 2023. Her research focuses on developing advanced methods for seismic monitoring and damage detection in strategic public buildings, addressing Italy’s seismic vulnerability and improving structural safety assessments in facilities such as schools and hospitals. She is currently working on Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems for two buildings in Perugia, one with base isolation and one without, to provide real-time evaluations after earthquakes.

Starting in May 2025, Livia joins the Chair of Structural Mechanics and Monitoring as a visiting doctoral researcher. During her six-month stay, she will work on improving seismic monitoring algorithms, optimizing sensor placement, and correlating monitored parameters with structural damage levels. She will also contribute to ongoing projects such as ReCharged (EU MSCA), and INBLANC (EU RIA), which center on monitoring-based infrastructure assessment. This collaboration will enhance her research capabilities while advancing SHM technologies for earthquake-prone regions through computational modeling, experimental validation, and practical applications.
