Content

This course is organized in two main pillars. The first pillar describes the technologies that are available for non destructive evaluation of structures and delves into description of the principle of operation of such methods (e.g. wave propagation, acoustic emission analysis, tomography). The second pillar, overviews the current implementation of condition assessment processes in codes and standards. Complementary to the topic of structural evaluation, the topic of interventions, rehabilitation and retrofitting of existing structures for different construction materials is next addressed.

Grading/Performance Assessment

Compulsory performance elements:

  • Project 1: Evaluation and analysis of advanced technologies for Non-Destructive Methods
  • Project 2: Evaluation and description of a rehabilitation construction project

Students should present the projects and submit a technical report. The presentation of the projects and the associated technical report (compulsory performance elements) are graded.

The weighting of the overall grade is composed as follows:

  • Project 1: 50 % towards the final grade
  • Project 2: 50 % towards the final grade

Moodle

We will be using Moodle for class materials & discussion. The system is highly catered to getting you help fast and efficiently from classmates, the TAs, and instructors. We encourage you to post your questions on the offered Q&A Forum.

The ZOOM lecture recordings, as well as demo files, are also posted on Moodle

*Groups of 2 Students. In order to ease the evaluation process, the group is the same for Project 1 and 2. In project 1, each group will receive different input data. The students are expected to have some background in MATLAB
** Presentations are part of the Lecture’s content and therefore the attendance of all the students is strongly recommended.
