Dr. Rui Zhang is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Chair of Structural Mechanics and Monitoring in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geomatic Engineering (DBAUG) at ETH Zürich. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Northwest A&F University in 2012 and his Master’s degree from Tongji University in 2019, focusing on structural parameter identification using adaptive Kalman filters. Rui completed his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at Penn State University in 2024, where his dissertation introduced Physics-Informed Parallel Neural Networks (PIPNNs) with self-adaptive loss weighting for continuous structural system identification.

In January 2025, Rui joined ETH Zürich as a Postdoctoral Fellow, supported by a competitive ETH Zürich Postdoctoral Fellowship. His current research focuses on developing and applying Uncertainty Quantification-integrated Scientific Machine Learning (UQ-SciML) frameworks to enhance the accuracy and robustness of structural identification and health monitoring. By combining computational modeling with domain-specific insights, his work aims to advance the safety and sustainability of infrastructure systems.
